Reducing Position Errors by Vibration Optimization of Stepper Motor Drive Waveforms

Open-loop control of stepper motors reduces system cost and complexity for positioning systems. To produce a precise current waveform, novel open-loop implementation hysteresis controller is presented compared to the existing pulse-width modulation method. The new method extends resolution available given sampling rate, allowing finer motor current. Applications precision minimize external disturbances but real, nonideal, introduces vibration, nonuniform motion. Microstepping drive waveform approximates continuous motion reduce these effects they are not fully modeled or understood. proposed assembled with hybrid verify experimentally. A differential evolution optimizer applied complete physical in loop. measure low contact microphone used, eliminating requirement expensive rotational sensors. This shown vibration across different speeds. Comparing microstep positions standard sinusoidal optimized an improvement position accuracy also found.
